Here is a session of four exercises aimed at helping the goalkeeper to acquire the concept of\u00a0not “magnetizing” with the ball and referencing on goal whenever there is no possibility of\u00a0playing for a 1v1 situation. The exercises evolve from less to more complex but always ensure\u00a0that the goalkeeper has\u00a0the option to follow the ball, thus forcing him to avoid this behavior and think about\u00a0positioning over the goal.<\/p>\n

This type of behavior is seen every day in professionals as well as in children and adolescents.\u00a0The situations of lateral crosses, through passes to lateral lane, dribblings… are all prone to\u00a0displace the goalkeeper by the ball’s movement. In our case,\u00a0we have opted to design a specific session to improve this concept in front of close-range\u00a0diagonal shooting situations preceded by a drop-back. These are prevalent situations often\u00a0prompted by a transition, a ball to the back, a through pass behind the defense, etc.<\/p>\n

As you will see, not much material is needed to develop them. Still, the task is predominantly\u00a0conditioned by the location of the rest of the elements of the task’s internal structure, and\u00a0above all, our behavior as the goalkeeping coach. Our figure can increase or decrease the\u00a0difficulty of the exercise through our own and the ball’s movement. We must understand how\u00a0we can change the feeling of the goalkeeper to chase the ball in order to\u00a0adapt to his level and needs. Evolving from static situations with slow dynamic conditions in\u00a0which the goalkeeper drops back at the same time as the ball moves, is essential to develop his\u00a0options towards the real situations that occur during the competition.<\/p>\n

Becoming disoriented, not taking the goal as a reference, or getting magnetized by the ball’s movement are some of the most common mistakes goalkeepers tend to make. Week after week, analyzing the best competitions in the world, we can observe how even top goalkeepers follow some of these behaviors. Here is a complete session to improve and minimize this behavioral pattern. The practice consists of four exercises, one for the warm-up, one for the initial part, and two for the main part of the session. These simple tasks will help us to progressively increase the difficulty in situations where the goalkeeper tends to lose the reference of the goal and become magnetized with the ball. Encouraging the acquisition of all these concepts is vital for the goalkeeper to be successful in
